Abstract

The history of dermoscopy represents a fascinating journey from its first steps to its current position as a fundamental tool in medical practice. Over the years, dermoscopy has undergone a continuous evolution, from the first observations with elementary equipment, through the advent of the handheld dermatoscope until the sophisticated digital and computer-assisted analysis technologies use nowadays. This article discusses the origins, key milestones and significant contributions that have marked the course of the history of dermoscopy, highlighting its importance in the early and accurate diagnosis of a wide range of skin diseases.
