Abstract

Granuloma annulare (GA) is a benign cutaneous granulomatous disease of unknown etiology. The subcutaneous and localized forms are the most common subtypes in children. Clinically, localized GA presents as ring-like or circinate plaques and the subcutaneous form as large tender and indolent nodule, both frequently located on the lower limbs. GA has been described in adults in association with diabetes mellitus; however, in children this association has only been reported in isolated cases. We present an 8-year-old girl with GA lesions, confirmed by histopathology. High blood glucose level was found and diagnosis of type 1 diabetes mellitus was subsequently made.
