Abstract

Idiopathic granulomatous mastitis (IGM) is a rare and benign inflammatory disease of the breast of unknown etiology and challenging to diagnose. Clinically it mimics other pathologies, such as infectious mastitis and breast carcinoma, and histologically it resembles other inflammatory granulomatous conditions. Diagnosis is made through biopsy and exclusion of other granulomatous conditions. Sometimes it can present erythema nodosum (EN) as an extramammary manifestation. Treatment is complex and with a high probability of recurrence. We present the case of a woman with IGM associated with EN with an excellent response to the established treatment.
