Abstract

Pemphigus is an autoimmune bullous disease mediated by autoantibodies against desmosome components, mainly desmoglein 1 and/or 3. The two main subtypes are pemphigus vulgaris and non-endemic pemphigus foliaceus, with distinctive clinical, histopathological, and immunological features. The shift or transition between these subtypes is an infrequent event, which physiopathology remains unclear. We communicate the cases of a patient with non-endemic pemphigus foliaceous that shifted to pemphigus vulgaris with serological confirmation through ELISA technique. This represents the most unusual type of phenotypical transition in patients with pemphigus.
