Abstract

I find the interconsultation form. I go to the medical service and the resident, with indifference, tells me that the patient was seen by the infectious disease specialist, the allergist, the orthopedist, the general practitioner and that they did not arrive at the diagnosis. Objectively, I look at the palms and there glittered, as a diagnostic seal, some “book” syphilids. I ask: why didn't they call the dermatologist at first? And the answer is a mental slap: "because we understand that the dermatologist is dedicated to aesthetics". And partially it is so. Aesthetics is a complement to dermatology. Beauty is inherent to the human being. Everyone wants to grow old. Nobody wants to look like this. But the complement has displaced the essence. A good number of colleagues advertise themselves as experts in "Dermatology and Cosmetics."
