Abstract

Born in Landsberg an der Warthe (now Gorzów Wielkopolski, Poland), she was one of the most famous writers not only in the former German Democratic Republic (GDR) or East Germany, but also outside the city walls, where she exerted enormous literary influence on the West or Federal Germany. After studying at the Universities of Jena and Leipzig, he devoted himself to writing and the publishing market, focusing his themes on post-war German problems, especially reunification, which he openly opposed like other Teutonic writers, the most known, the Nobel Prize winner Günter Grass. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, she was harshly criticized by the media for linking her to the Stasi (East Germany's secret police) as an informer on the activities of other colleagues in the GDR.
