Abstract

The loxoscelism is a clinical condition resulting from the bite of the spider of the genus Loxosceles. 2 clinical presentations are described: the cutaneous loxoscelism, characterized by an erithematous-edematous plaque at the site of the bite that progresses to necrosis and cutaneous-visceral loxoscelism that can lead to hemolysis, disseminated intravascular coagulation, acute renal failure and even death. Diagnosis is eminently clinical and not always requires visualization of the spider. Multiple therapeutic options have been described such as corticosteroids, dapsone, Loxosceles anti-venom, antibiotics, antihistamines, surgery and hyperbaric oxygen. We present 2 patients with cutaneous loxoscelism with a good response to the treatments instituted.
