Abstract

Angela Carter (née Angela Stalker) worked as a journalist from the age of nineteen and, after marrying, studied English literature at Bristol. With a broad literary background, her work contains a large number of references to classic English and French authors. After separating from her husband and living in Japan for two years, she settled in Bath, where she wrote much of her work and remarried. From then on, she worked as a professor of creative writing at various universities.
