Abstract

Onychomycosis affects approximately 10% of the world population and this percentage is doubled in patients older than 60 years. Dermatophytes are isolated in most cases. However, non-dermatophyte mycelial fungi represent between 1% and 10% of onychomycosis, with a large number of species identified as etiological agents. We present a case of nail infection caused by a non-dermatophyte feohifomycete fungus, the first report in the local literature: Bipolaris cynodontis.
