Abstract

Carcinosarcoma is a biphasic tumor composed of malignant epithelial and mesenchymal cell populations. We present a patient with primary cutaneous carcinosarcoma, an infrequent tumor whose diagnosis implies a challenge since it must be distinguished from other fusocelular tumors such as sarcomatoid squamous cell carcinoma, atypical fibroxanthoma, or desmoplastic melanoma. A histopathology evidencing its biphasic morphology, together with a positive immunohistochemistry for p63 and cytokeratins AE1 and AE3, are the main characteristics that confirmed the diagnosis in this case. Cutaneous carcinosarcoma has a specific prognosis according to its histopathological differentiation, and a correct treatment is mandatory for a favorable evolution.
