Trigeminal trophic syndrome. A case with infrequent extension
Abstract
Trigeminal trophic syndrome (TTS) is a rare cause of chronic facial ulcer related to the central or periferic damage to the trigeminal nerve. It is usually observed as a hypoesthesic ulcer over a dysesthesic skin area, that spares the medial line. Histology and laboratory are not specific but relevant to rule out other causes. The treatment requires multidisciplinary care and, despite therapeutic efforts, the outcome can be erratic. We present a patient with delayed diagnosis of TTS with extensive compromise of the left side of his face.
