Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) are rare adverse drug reactions that are part of the same spectrum of disease. They are differentiated by the extent of skin detachment, and SJS is considered when it is less than 10%. The prevalence of SJS in HIV-positive patients is up to 1000 times higher than in the rest of the population, probably secondary to an alteration in the T-cell-mediated immune response. We present the case of a female patient with SJS who during hospitalization was diagnosed with HIV and syphilis, both unknown until now.
