Abstract

Hypomelanotic blue nevus is a rare variant of blue nevus, and a diagnostic challenge for the dermatologic clinician. We present a case of a 40 years old woman, with a grayish, round and asymptomatic papuloid tumor on her right arm, which developed eight years before consultation. With a clinical diagnosis of hypomelanotic blue nevus in mind, we performed a dermoscopy and an excisional biopsy was taken. Histopathology, however, showed a common blue nevus. We highlight the clinical-pathological discordance seen in our case, since it was difficult to suspect blue nevus on first impression and with dermoscopy.
