Abstract

Histoplasmosis is an endemic mycosis of tropical regions caused by the dimorphic fungus Histoplasma capsulatum. It is one of the most prevalent fungal infections in endemic areas, particularly among patients with HIV. Infection occurs through inhalation of fungal spores, which are found in soil contaminated with bird or bat droppings. This mycosis presents with a wide range of clinical manifestations, from asymptomatic forms to severe and disseminated disease. We present a clinical case of an HIV-positive patient with subacute disseminated histoplasmosis and immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome.
