Tinea capitis and barbae in immunocompetent adults from contaminated hair cutting tools

Abstract

Our intention is to alert the dermatological community about the increase, in recent years, in consultations for superficial mycoses on the scalp and face (tinea capitis or tinea capitis, and tinea barbae or tinea barbae) in adults. immunocompetent. They consulted patients who presented erythematous, scaly plaques, generally pruritic, with sharp circinate or arcuate boundaries, located in shaving areas and that appeared shortly after going to a barbershop. Sometimes, they presented nodules and pustules due to a hyperergic reaction against the fungal giants (similar to Celsus's kerion).
